“Trailer was great. We took it on a 4,500 mile journey We had some circumstantial issues on the road with the trailer. We lost a few lugs (and almost a tire) so we had to pay $800 for a mobilehub / stud repair in UT Separate from that, we hit some highway debris in AZ and broke a fender and some wiring. We came to a quick resolution with the owner on the repairs and he was more than reasonable. Nice trailer. Tough trip. ”

Choosing the Right Trailer to Rent in Upland

From home renovation projects to farmers' market supplies and equipment hauling, Upland renters should check trailer capacity, local waste requirements, and access for larger loads. Run through these before you send a rental request.

  • Size and capacity: match deck length and payload to your biggest item, and leave room to strap it down safely.

  • Weight and brakes: stay within the trailer's rated load and your vehicle's tow rating, and keep tongue weight around 10 to 15 percent of the total. Under California Vehicle Code Section 26302, qualifying trailers manufactured and first registered after January 1, 1966, with a gross weight of 3,000 pounds or more generally require brakes on at least 2 wheels, with different requirements for certain trailer types.

  • Construction waste plans: Upland requires a Waste Management Plan for specified construction and demolition projects, including certain renovations, additions, and new construction. Covered projects must divert at least 65% of debris through salvage, reuse, or recycling. Check the city's requirements before arranging a dump trailer.

  • Oversized equipment transportation: If your vehicle, equipment, or load exceeds standard legal dimensions or weight limits, Upland may require an oversized-load transportation permit. Review the city's permit instructionsand approved routes before traveling.

  • Park event unloading: Upland has reservable park facilities, including Magnolia Park and Memorial Park. Larger public events may require additional approval, and renting a picnic area does not automatically authorize trailer parking. Confirm access and unloading arrangements before bringing supplies.

  • Hitch, chains, and wiring: confirm the ball size (usually 2 inches, or 2-5/16 for heavier trailers), your hitch class, and that the trailer's plug matches your vehicle. Cross the safety chains under the tongue.

  • Ramps and loading: for anything you roll or drive on, check for a ramp gate or low deck height; for tall or awkward loads, check deck width and tie-down points.

  • Open vs. enclosed: open trailers load fast and cost less; enclosed trailers protect cargo from inland Southern California's dust, winds, and occasional heavy rain.

  • Get your questions answered: check the listing details first, and ask Toby, the towlos virtual assistant, anything else. After you submit a rental request, you can message the Host in towlos Chat to confirm dimensions, hitch, delivery, and anything specific to your load before they approve it.

Common Reasons to Rent a Trailer in Upland

From farmers' market deliveries in Historic Downtown Upland to neighborhood renovations and park gatherings, these are the most common reasons Upland renters book a trailer, and the type that fits each job.

  • Historic Downtown farmers' market supplies. Upland's Farmers' Market regularly takes place on Saturdays on 2nd Avenue. Enclosed cargo trailers and utility trailers can help approved vendors transport merchandise, tables, displays, and market equipment.

  • Home renovations and remodeling. Residents replacing flooring, cabinets, roofing, or fencing can use dump trailers for eligible debris and utility trailers for building materials. Check whether the project requires a construction waste management plan and confirm the proper disposal destination.

  • Household moves and furniture transport. Residents moving around Upland and neighboring Inland Empire communities can use enclosed cargo trailers for furniture, boxes, and appliances. Utility trailers can accommodate larger items that can be safely secured.

  • Landscaping and yard projects. Dump and utility trailers can transport soil, gravel, mulch, branches, plants, and landscaping tools. Cover loose loads and account for the weight of materials like gravel and wet soil.

  • Picnics and celebrations at Magnolia Park. Magnolia Park has 2 reservable areas accommodating up to 50 people each. Utility trailers can transport decorations and event supplies to an approved unloading location.

  • Community events and seasonal activities. Upland's Recreation & Community Services organizes community programs and special events throughout the year. Enclosed trailers can help authorized participants move supplies, displays, and equipment.

  • Receptions and indoor gatherings. The city's facility rental program includes the Carnegie Library, Landecena Community Building, and Magnolia Recreation Center. Cargo trailers can carry event decorations, tables, and equipment when venue access is approved.

  • Park recreation and sports equipment. Upland's parks and recreation facilities support community sports and outdoor activities. Utility and enclosed trailers can help authorized teams transport goals, tents, sporting equipment, and other large supplies.

  • Contractor tools and heavy equipment. Contractors working on Upland properties can use equipment trailers, flatbeds, and deckovers to transport compact machinery, tools, lumber, and construction materials. Confirm trailer weight ratings and whether an oversized-load permit applies.

  • Car and motorcycle transport. Car haulers, motorcycle trailers, and tilt-deck trailers can transport restoration projects, non-running cars, and motorcycles around Upland. Check loading equipment, trailer capacity, and securement before submitting a rental request.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to rent a trailer in Upland?
Daily rates on towlos typically range from $35 to $120 depending on trailer type and size. Utility trailers are the most affordable; enclosed, dump, and specialty trailers cost more. Prices are set by individual owners, and many offer weekly or multi-day discounts.
How do I book a trailer on towlos?
Search by location and dates, browse available trailers, and submit a booking request. The owner confirms availability and payment is processed securely. You'll receive pickup details once confirmed, most rentals are locked in within an hour.
Is damage insurance provided on towlos?
Yes. Every booking on towlos with an eligible trailer is backed by towlos Protect+, which provides coverage for physical damage to the trailer during your rental. Coverage details and limits are shown on the booking page. Review the towlos Insurance page if you have questions about what's included.
Do I need additional insurance to rent a trailer?
Requirements vary by owner. Some carry their own coverage; others ask renters to show proof of auto insurance. Check the listing details or message the owner before booking. Towlos Protect+ covers damage to the trailer, but your auto policy may be needed for liability.
What kind of hitch do I need?
Most utility trailers use a standard 2" ball hitch. Car haulers and heavier trailers may require a 2-5/16" ball. Check the listing specs and confirm with the owner that your vehicle's hitch class and tow rating are compatible before booking.
What size trailer do I need for a one-bedroom apartment move?
A 6×10 or 6×12 open utility trailer handles most one-bedroom moves, furniture, boxes, and appliances. If you have bulky items or a large couch, consider a 7×14 or larger. When in doubt, size up, it's easier to have extra space than to make two trips.
Do towlos hosts offer delivery in the Upland area?
Some do. When searching, look for listings that mention delivery or message the owner directly. Delivery is especially useful if you don't have a truck or hitch set up. Many local hosts are flexible and happy to arrange drop-off for an additional fee.
Can I rent a trailer one-way?
Most towlos rentals are round-trip, you pick up and return the trailer to the same owner. Some owners allow one-way arrangements; contact them directly to ask. If you're relocating, it's worth messaging a few hosts to see who can accommodate.
