“Trailer was great. We took it on a 4,500 mile journey We had some circumstantial issues on the road with the trailer. We lost a few lugs (and almost a tire) so we had to pay $800 for a mobilehub / stud repair in UT Separate from that, we hit some highway debris in AZ and broke a fender and some wiring. We came to a quick resolution with the owner on the repairs and he was more than reasonable. Nice trailer. Tough trip. ”

Choosing the Right Trailer to Rent in Highland

Highland renters moving furniture, transporting landscaping materials, or clearing renovation debris need to consider local disposal requirements and available unloading space. Plan your towing route, check the destination's rules, and match the trailer to the weight of your load. Run through these before you send a rental request.

  • Size and capacity: match deck length and payload to your biggest item, and leave room to strap it down safely.

  • Weight and brakes: stay within the trailer's rated load and your vehicle's tow rating, and keep tongue weight around 10 to 15 percent of the total. Under California Vehicle Code Section 26302, qualifying trailers manufactured and first registered after January 1, 1966, with a gross weight of 3,000 pounds or more generally require brakes on at least 2 wheels, subject to applicable exceptions.

  • Demolition waste permits: Highland requires an approved construction and demolition waste plan before issuing permits for structural demolition. Its demolition permit policy also requires approved waste-hauler arrangements and documentation of recyclable materials. Check the rules before using a dump trailer for a demolition project.

  • Household cleanup limits: Highland's residential waste program offers up to 4 bulky-item pickups each year, with up to 5 items per pickup. Concrete, construction debris, paint, and tires cannot go into regular household trash barrels, so arrange an appropriate disposal destination for those loads.

  • Park unloading and hours: Highland Community Park is located at 27003 Hibiscus Street, and the city's published park rules generally establish hours of 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Confirm any sports-field scheduling or event authorization and use a permitted unloading area before bringing a trailer.

  • Hitch, chains, and wiring: confirm the ball size (usually 2 inches, or 2-5/16 for heavier trailers), your hitch class, and that the trailer's plug matches your vehicle. Cross the safety chains under the tongue.

  • Ramps and loading: for anything you roll or drive on, check for a ramp gate or low deck height; for tall or awkward loads, check deck width and tie-down points.

  • Open vs. enclosed: open trailers load fast and cost less; enclosed trailers protect cargo from foothill dust, seasonal winds, and occasional heavy rain.

  • Get your questions answered: check the listing details first, and ask Toby, the towlos virtual assistant, anything else. After you submit a rental request, you can message the Host in towlos Chat to confirm dimensions, hitch, delivery, and anything specific to your load before they approve it.

Common Reasons to Rent a Trailer in Highland

From taking equipment to Highland Community Park to preparing supplies for neighborhood celebrations and home improvement projects, these are the most common reasons Highland renters book a trailer, and the type that fits each job.

  • Home renovations and remodeling. Residents replacing fencing, roofing, flooring, or cabinets can use utility trailers for building supplies and dump trailers for eligible debris. Confirm whether a waste management plan or approved hauling service is required before disposal.

  • Furniture and household moves. Enclosed cargo trailers protect appliances, furniture, moving boxes, and other belongings during moves around Highland and neighboring San Bernardino County communities. Utility trailers work for oversized items that can be securely tied down.

  • Landscaping and yard maintenance. Utility and dump trailers can move soil, gravel, mulch, plants, branches, and landscaping tools. Secure loose loads and keep dirt or construction debris out of household green waste carts.

  • Sports at Highland Community Park. Highland Community Park on Hibiscus Street accommodates organized athletic activities, with field scheduling handled through the city's Public Services staff. Utility and enclosed trailers can carry sports equipment, tents, and supplies for authorized events.

  • Family gatherings at local parks. Highland's parks include Aurantia Park, Canyon Oak Park, and other neighborhood recreation areas. Small utility trailers can transport picnic equipment and decorations to approved unloading points, but ordinary park spaces are not reservable under the city's published guidelines.

  • Community celebrations and parades. Highland's annual Fourth of July parade and past Citrus Harvest Festival programming provide opportunities for approved participants to transport decorations, displays, and event supplies in enclosed cargo trailers.

  • Community improvement projects. Highland's local improvement initiatives include neighborhood cleanup and maintenance activities. Utility trailers can help authorized volunteers transport tools and permitted debris to designated collection locations.

  • Household cleanouts and recycling trips. Residents clearing garages or replacing furniture may use utility trailers to transport reusable goods and eligible materials to authorized facilities. Highland also offers scheduled bulky-item pickup for qualifying household items.

  • Contractor tools and machinery. Flatbeds, equipment trailers, and deckovers can transport compact machinery, lumber, scaffolding, and tools for home and commercial projects. Check load ratings, ramps, and securement equipment.

  • Cars, motorcycles, and project vehicles. Car haulers, motorcycle trailers, and tilt-deck trailers can transport restoration vehicles, motorcycles, and non-running cars around Highland and the Inland Empire. Match the trailer's rated payload, dimensions, and loading equipment to the vehicle.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to rent a trailer in Highland?
Daily rates on towlos typically range from $35 to $120 depending on trailer type and size. Utility trailers are the most affordable; enclosed, dump, and specialty trailers cost more. Prices are set by individual owners, and many offer weekly or multi-day discounts.
How do I book a trailer on towlos?
Search by location and dates, browse available trailers, and submit a booking request. The owner confirms availability and payment is processed securely. You'll receive pickup details once confirmed, most rentals are locked in within an hour.
Is damage insurance provided on towlos?
Yes. Every booking on towlos with an eligible trailer is backed by towlos Protect+, which provides coverage for physical damage to the trailer during your rental. Coverage details and limits are shown on the booking page. Review the towlos Insurance page if you have questions about what's included.
Do I need additional insurance to rent a trailer?
Requirements vary by owner. Some carry their own coverage; others ask renters to show proof of auto insurance. Check the listing details or message the owner before booking. Towlos Protect+ covers damage to the trailer, but your auto policy may be needed for liability.
What kind of hitch do I need?
Most utility trailers use a standard 2" ball hitch. Car haulers and heavier trailers may require a 2-5/16" ball. Check the listing specs and confirm with the owner that your vehicle's hitch class and tow rating are compatible before booking.
What size trailer do I need for a one-bedroom apartment move?
A 6×10 or 6×12 open utility trailer handles most one-bedroom moves, furniture, boxes, and appliances. If you have bulky items or a large couch, consider a 7×14 or larger. When in doubt, size up, it's easier to have extra space than to make two trips.
Do towlos hosts offer delivery in the Highland area?
Some do. When searching, look for listings that mention delivery or message the owner directly. Delivery is especially useful if you don't have a truck or hitch set up. Many local hosts are flexible and happy to arrange drop-off for an additional fee.
Can I rent a trailer one-way?
Most towlos rentals are round-trip, you pick up and return the trailer to the same owner. Some owners allow one-way arrangements; contact them directly to ask. If you're relocating, it's worth messaging a few hosts to see who can accommodate.
