Trailer Rentals in Athens, Georgia

Moving furniture between Athens neighborhoods, clearing out a rental property, or bringing supplies to a renovation project? The right trailer depends on your load, your tow vehicle, and where the materials need to go. Athens-Clarke County has separate rules for bulky household items, yard debris, and construction waste, so check those details before pickup. Run through these before you send a rental request.

• Size and capacity: match deck length and payload to your biggest item, and leave room to strap it down safely.

• Weight and brakes: stay within the trailer's rated load and your vehicle's tow rating, and keep tongue weight around 10 to 15 percent of the total. Georgia generally requires brakes on all wheels for trailers with a gross weight of 3,000 pounds or more, subject to applicable exceptions. Confirm the trailer's braking and breakaway equipment before towing.

• Construction debris disposal: The Athens-Clarke County Landfill does not accept construction and demolition materials. Roofing, flooring, drywall, and similar renovation debris need a facility that specifically accepts those materials, so confirm your destination before loading a dump trailer.

• Bulky household items: The county's bulky-waste collection program allows eligible households four pickups per year, with up to five items per pickup. Construction debris, hazardous materials, and yard waste are excluded. Check whether curbside collection makes more sense than hauling a smaller furniture load yourself.

• Leaves and branches: Athens-Clarke County uses a four-week leaf and limb collection rotation. Residential loads have quantity and preparation limits, including paper bags for leaves and smaller yard debris. Review the leaf and limb schedule before transporting larger landscaping loads.

• Hitch, chains, and wiring: confirm the ball size (usually 2 inches, or 2-5/16 for heavier trailers), your hitch class, and that the trailer's plug matches your vehicle. Cross the safety chains under the tongue.

• Ramps and loading: for anything you roll or drive on, check for a ramp gate or low deck height; for tall or awkward loads, check deck width and tie-down points.

• Open vs. enclosed: open trailers load fast and cost less; enclosed trailers protect cargo from Athens thunderstorms, seasonal downpours, humidity, and road spray.

• Get your questions answered: check the listing details first, and ask Toby, the towlos virtual assistant, anything else. After you submit a rental request, you can message the Host in towlos Chat to confirm dimensions, hitch, delivery, and anything specific to your load before they approve it.
